Ducks Sign O'Donnell and Huskins to Two-Year Extensions

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defensemen Sean O'Donnell and Kent Huskins to two-year contract extensions.

O'Donnell, 35 (10/31/71), appeared in his 12th NHL season in 2006-07 (second with the Ducks), recording 2-15=17 points with 92 penalty minutes (PIM) and a plus/minus rating of +9 in 79 games. In 21 playoff games, O'Donnell scored 0-2=2 points with 10 PIM and was a +8, winning his first Stanley Cup Championship.

O'Donnell was acquired from Phoenix in exchange for Joel Perrault on March 9, 2006. He was originally drafted by Buffalo in the sixth round (123rd overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

Huskins, 27 (5/4/79), made his NHL debut and appeared in 33 games with the Ducks in 2006-07, scoring 0-3=3 points with 14 PIM. Huskins played in 21 Stanley Cup playoff games and scored 0-1=1 point with 11 PIM and a +4 rating. In 39 games with Portland of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, Huskins scored 3-12=15 points.

Huskins signed as a free agent on Aug. 22, 2005. He was originally drafted by Chicago in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Good for Odi, he deserves it. I was hoping he might come back to Beantown.

Good, specially when it's for a considerable low cost... O'Donnell takes a pay cut and gets $1.25M on both seasons and Huskins takes $600k first and $650k on the next one, as TSN reports.
I think that O'D could have gotten more if he went on the UFA market

Definetly, he would have gotten 2 million on the market. He is one guy who is not all about the money. He gets to wake up every day and walk out his backdoor onto the beach with his dog. Staying in the place he loves and staying with a team he is comfortable with was more important than more money.

Eh

Played with Huskins a few times growing up. He's a great guy, and let me tell you... He hits like a bloody F'ing truck. Hardest I've ever been hit was by that guy. My brother played Minor hockey with him all the way up. I'm glad to see he's sticking around in Anaheim, last I heard he was really enjoying it up there.

Ditto with O'Donnell. I'm a big fan of his, and hope he stays wherever he is happiest. He's awesome.

Two good Ottawa lads, nice to see 'em stickin' with a winner.

Guess it helps to be on a winner too. And the weather doesn't suck as long as you stay away from the mudslides, wild fires, eathquakes. Good keeps for Anaheim.
