Ducks Sign David Leneveu to One-Year Contract

ANAHEIM, CA – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed goaltender David LeNeveu to a one-year contract.

LeNeveu, 25 (5/23/83), appeared in 34 games in 2007-08 with San Antonio and Hartford of the American Hockey League (AHL), posting a 17-10-5 record with a 2.33 goals-against average (GAA) and .916 save percentage (SV%). Among AHL leaders, he ranked tied for 10th in SV% and 12th in GAA.

The 6-1, 187-pound goaltender has also appeared in 21 career NHL contests (all with the Phoenix Coyotes), posting a 5-9-2 record with a 3.38 GAA and .888 SV%. He recorded his first NHL win on Oct. 25, 2005 in a 5-4 overtime victory vs. St. Louis. LeNeveu has also appeared in 185 career AHL contests over five seasons with a 2.79 GAA, recording seven shutouts. The netminder ranked third in the AHL in 2005-06 with a .921 SV%.

LeNeveu appeared in 46 career Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) contests over two seasons with the Cornell Big Red. A runner-up for the 2003 Hobey Baker Award, his 1.20 GAA that season set a then-NCAA Division 1 record. He also helped lead Cornell to the semifinal game of the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament in 2002-03 in addition to being named to the NCAA East First All-American Team. Earning accolades such as the 2003 ECAC Player of the Year and the Ken Dryden Award (ECAC’s Top Goaltender), LeNeveu also owns the NCAA Division 1 record for the best career GAA with a 1.29.

A native of Fernie, British Columbia, LeNeveu was drafted by Phoenix in the second round (46th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the NY Rangers with Fredrik Sjostrom, Josh Gratton and a conditional pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Al Montoya and Marcel Hossa on Feb. 26, 2008.
