Good for the Ducks. A bit much in my opinion but there was no way they would have traded him while they have a legitimate chance at winning another cup this season, so their only real options were to sign him to a huge contract or lose him for nothing. After losing Schultz for nothing last year it would have been a huge blow to the franchise to lose Perry too.
As a Leafs fan I'm glad he is staying in Anaheim. Nothing against him it just wouldn't have made any sense for the Leafs to give up any worthwhile assets for a rental, especially a rental that isn't a center. Last edited by grits207; 03-19-2013 at 08:44 AM. |

No urgency to trade Bobby Ryan. He is on contract for 13-14 and 14-15 below market value.
Perry would have gotten 9.5 per year on open market. In the old CBA he would have signed for 12-15 years with low salary in the last few years. So the cap hit is deceptive when compared to others. 8 mil per is the going rate for 1st liners going forward. He won the Hart trophy recently His compete level is off the chart. He wants to win as bad as anyone. Selanne's 4.5 mil comes off the books July 1st. Hiller may be traded this summer. He is UFA July 2014. The Ducks have a rich owner committed to winning. |

Once again...in 3 years, Sidney Crosby's contract is going to look like loose change compared to what some of these impending FAs are going to get. Yeah, I know he took a "discount," but the point isn't any less valid.
