Ducks Sign Brad Staubitz

The Ducks have signed right wing Brad Staubitz to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 NHL season. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Staubitz, 27 (7/28/84), appeared in 62 contests split with the Minnesota Wild and Montreal Canadiens in 2011-12, scoring 1-0=1 point with 121 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-1, 215-pound winger appeared in a career-high 71 contests in 2010-11 with the Wild, scoring a personal best 4-5=9 points with 173 PIM. Among league leaders, he ranked ninth in PIM. Staubitz scored a career-high 1-1=2 points on Apr. 3, 2011 at Detroit.

In 215 career NHL contests, Staubitz has earned 9-10=19 points with 480 PIM. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Staubitz originally signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks on Sept. 18, 2005. He made his NHL debut with the Sharks on Oct. 17, 2008 at Anaheim and scored his first career goal on Jan. 9, 2009 at Edmonton in a 4-1 Sharks victory. Staubitz was acquired by Minnesota in exchange for a fifth-round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft on June 21, 2010. He was claimed off waivers by Montreal on Feb. 27, 2012.

Staubitz scored a career-high 6-18=24 points with 140 PIM and a +5 rating in 2003-04 with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), ranking second among club defensemen in points (played defense in junior). Over four OHL seasons with Sault Ste. Marie and Ottawa (2001-05), Staubitz scored 15-46=61 points with 483 PIM in 236 career games. He advanced to the OHL Finals with the Ottawa 67’s in 2005 and co-led all league defensemen in postseason scoring (4-16=20 points in 21 contests).

Really happy for Staubitz, great guy, but does that means the end of Parros in Anaheim? And the end of the HW on the Ducks?

I loved him on the Habs, but as a #1 fighting guy, I'm not sure.

So this pretty much confirms that Parros isn't coming back.

Oh yes. That's what I said on another topic (the Carkner one I think)... the West getting tougher and the East getting weak.

Ducks heard that AVS signed Carkner so they add Staubitz to Parros. In 20 minutes it will be official that Carkner actually did not sign

Why? Many HWs still available. When the camp is going to start and the Habs are still the softest team in the league I'll think about that.

This is good the Ducks were looking for a tough guy who can play a bit of hockey.

Still hope they get a heavyweight.

Not trying to spoil your optimism, but I would take Parros over Staubitz all around. In his time, here in Minny at least, he contributed nothing in terms of points, useless on the forcheck, took stupid & undisciplined penalties, and as far as fighting he can't handle the heavy lifting.... His only value in my opinion is riding shotgun to a real heavy, and playing against opponents with a faster, softer lineup.
