Ducks Recall King and Miller, Assign Ryan to Portland
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled right wing Jason King and left wing Drew Miller from the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Ducks assigned right wing Bobby Ryan to Portland.
King, 26 (9/14/81), scored two goals in the Pirates’ season opener vs. Springfield last night in Portland. In four preseason games with the Ducks, King recorded 2-1=3 points with two penalty minutes (PIM), tying him for fourth on the club in points scored. He was originally assigned to Portland on Sept. 24. Acquired from Vancouver with a third-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for center Ryan Shannon on June 23, 2007, King spent the 2006-07 regular season with Skelleftea of the Swedish Elite League. He has played in 55 career NHL games with the Canucks from 2002-03 to 2003-04, scoring 12-11=23 points with eight PIM. Miller, 23 (2/17/84), was scoreless in the Pirates’ season opener last night vs. Springfield. Originally assigned to Portland on Sept. 24, Miller appeared in three exhibition games for Anaheim last month, scoring 1-0=1 point. Selected in the sixth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Miller made his professional hockey debut in 2006-07 with Portland, finishing tied for first on the Pirates in rookie scoring and tied for third in overall scoring (16-20=36). He appeared in three games for Anaheim during the 2007 playoffs, including Games One and Two of the Stanley Cup Final vs. Ottawa. Ryan, 20 (3/17/07), scored 1-0=1 point in four regular-season games with the Ducks. Ryan had 1-5=6 points with 10 PIM in four preseason games, leading Anaheim in assists and points. Originally selected by Anaheim in the first round (second overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Ryan led Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in scoring for the second consecutive season in 2006-07. In 63 games for the Attack, Ryan had 43-49=102 points, finishing eighth in OHL scoring and fourth in power play goals. |
:o, i thought being picked behind sid the kid guaranteed a roster spot for this guy,
but i guess he wasn't that good after all. |

He was a man playing against boys at the OHL level. He really needs the time in the AHL to figure out how to play his game against men. He will be back in the NHL, don't worry. |
I'd be surprised if Ryan doesn't make it back up this year for an extended period.

I can't belive he makes it to the nhl, and Segal not. Ouch. Whats wrong with the ducks? |

King is a streaky scorer...the Ducks are going to give him about 10 games to show what he can do. They really need Selanne!! |
