Ducks Recall Center Mark Bell

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled center Mark Bell from the Syracuse Crunch, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Bell, 31 (8/5/80), appeared in 32 contests with the Crunch in 2011-12, scoring 5-8=13 points with 33 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-4, 206-pound center scored a season-high two goals (2-0=2) on Oct. 26 at Lake Erie in a 7-0 Crunch shutout. In addition, Bell had a season-high three-game point streak from Oct. 29-Nov. 6 (2-4=6), including a season-high three-point game (1-2=3) on Nov. 5 vs. Richmond.

Signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 20, 2011, Bell has played seven NHL seasons with Chicago (2000-06), San Jose (2006-07) and Toronto (2007-08), collecting 87-95=182 points with 597 PIM in 445 career games. He last appeared in the NHL with Toronto in 2007-08, scoring 4-6=10 points with 60 PIM in 35 games. Bell played 80 games-or-more in four consecutive seasons from 2001-06, including a full 82-game schedule in three straight NHL campaigns. Bell has also appeared in nine career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Chicago (2002) and San Jose (2007), going scoreless with 10 PIM.

Selected by Chicago in the first round (eighth overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Bell played two seasons (2009-11) with Kloten of the Swiss National League A, collecting 29-23=52 points with a +21 rating and 127 PIM in 80 games. In 167 career AHL contests, Bell has earned 38-58=96 points with a +8 rating and 224 PIM. A native of St. Paul’s, Ontario, Bell represented Canada at the 2009 and 2010 Spengler Cup and won bronze at the 2000 World Junior Championship in Sweden.

^^^ And he did it all with a cage on

I really hope Mark gets another chance to crack an NHL lineup. Great team player and pretty tough guy.

Please, oh please, Ducks keep him there or trade him for the puck bag he has played like this year. He had some family issues to deal with early in the season, but he has been a total disappointment and waste of both a contract and a roster spot. Has done nothing for the team but take up space. One of the biggest "busts" of the off season attempt by the Ducks to add some leadership and toughness to Syracuse. Not the Mark Bell of old, has played more like Tinker Bell this season. Good riddance and dont let the airplane hatch hit ya on the way outta here.

Kind of a strange callup, the Ducks downplaying the injuries to blake, and Beleskey but this callup kinda undermines that.

I am guessing a trade or loan is Marks near future. Syracuse has 8 vets and 24 players on the roster. Schaus and Brittain were both sent to Elmira today.
