Ducks Reassign Dustin Penner to Portland

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned right wing Dustin Penner to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).

Penner, 23 (9/28/82), has appeared in 15 games this season with Anaheim, earning 4-3=7 points with 12 penalty minutes and a +3 rating. The 6-4, 245-pound winger recorded the game-winning goal in Anaheim’s 4-1 win over Chicago on Sunday, February 12. He scored his first NHL goal and tied a franchise rookie record for goals in a game with 2-1=3 points on Nov. 30 vs. Phoenix.

With the Pirates, the Winkler, Manitoba native has played in 34 games this season, scoring 26-27=53 points (second only to Ryan Shannon’s 16-38=54 points).

Penner was signed as a free agent by Anaheim on May 12, 2004.

Hm, interesting. I gotta think that the Ducks just don't want the guy sitting around for the break. He's been doing very well lately. Also, the Pirates' offense has been gutted since Perry, Penner and Getzlaf were called up....
