Ducks Claim Marchant on Waivers
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has claimed center Todd Marchant on waivers from Columbus.
Marchant, 32 (8/12/73), has played 18 games with Columbus this season, scoring 3-6=9 points with 20 penalty minutes. The 5-10, 180-pound forward has played in 774 NHL games over 13 seasons, earning 148-238=386 points. He has also appeared in 43 postseason games, earning 7-6=13 points with 42 penalty minutes. He set career highs in goals, assists and points during the 2002-2003 season as a member of the Edmonton Oilers, earning 20-40=60 points with 48 penalty minutes and a +13 rating. A native of Buffalo, New York, Marchant played for Team USA at the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway where he earned 1-1=2 points in eight tournament games. Marchant was selected in the seventh round (164th overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. He was traded to Edmonton by the NY Rangers for Craig MacTavish on March 21, 1994. He signed as a free agent with Columbus on July 3, 2003.

Crazy, i figured Brian Burke would go for Todd Marchant, I wonder if How he feels about the trade? He has to play for the duck or not play in the NHL !! Holy crap! I think i might a little choked.But he is goign to a team that wants him.

when you do a salary dump, you usually don't take another bloated contract in return.
The Ducks must have been truly desperate to move Federov to agree to such a craptacular deal. Marchant is signed through 2009. Ouch. I would be screaming to kingdom come if The Genius Sather made a deal such as this.

If Marchant does not want to play in Anaheim, I am sure he could file a greivence with the league. Afterall, what good is a no trade clause if it can easily be avoided?
Depending on how Marchant feels about this, we may or may not have heard the end of this. |

well, i think i'd like having Marchant on my team... but damn it must have been a tough week for him from being included in a deal that he wanted no part in, to being put on waivers not ONCE but TWICE, and now he goes to the place he was supposed to be traded to in the first place... the life of a hockey player.
