Ducks Assign Mark Mowers to SC Bern

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has assigned center Mark Mowers to SC Bern of the Swiss National League.

Mowers, 33 (2/16/74), appeared in 17 games for Anaheim this season, scoring a goal (1-0=1) with eight penalty minutes (PIM). The 5-11, 174-pound center spent the 2006-07 season with the Boston Bruins, scoring 5-12=17 points with 26 PIM in 78 games played. He set numerous career highs with the Bruins last season, including goals, assists, points, PIM, games played and average TOI (12:00).

Mowers was acquired from Boston in exchange for defensemen Brett Skinner and Nathan Saunders on Sept. 24, 2007. He has played in seven NHL seasons with Nashville, Detroit, Boston and Anaheim. In 278 career NHL games, he has collected 18-44=62 points with 70 PIM. The Decatur, Georgia native was originally signed by Nashville as a free agent on June 11, 1998.

During a four-year collegiate career at the University of New Hampshire, Mowers earned Hockey East Rookie of the Year honors in 1995 and was named to the NCAA East First All-American Team and Hockey East Second All-Star Team in 1998. With Nashville’s development affiliate in Milwaukee, he won the Ken McKenzie Trophy as the International Hockey League’s U.S.-born Rookie of the Year in 1999.
