Ducks Assign Devante Smith-Pelly to Norfolk (AHL)

The Ducks have assigned right wing Devante Smith-Pelly to the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Smith-Pelly, 20 (6/14/92), appeared in five contests with Anaheim this season, going scoreless while averaging 7:59 time-on-ice. The 6-0, 225-pound winger began the season with Norfolk, scoring 5-8=13 points with 34 penalty minutes (PIM) in 34 contests. He recorded multi-point games on two occasions with the Admirals earlier this season: Oct. 13 vs. Worcester (0-2=2), as well as Oct. 27 at St. John’s (1-1=2).

Selected in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Smith-Pelly made his NHL debut with Anaheim in 2011-12, collecting 7-6=13 points with 16 PIM in 49 contests. The Scarborough, Ontario native appeared in his first contest with the Ducks at 19 years, three months and 23 days on Oct. 7 at Buffalo (Helsinki, Finland), becoming the third-youngest player to appear in an Anaheim uniform. Smith-Pelly scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 9, 2011 vs. Nashville (Rinne). In 38 career AHL contests, he has amassed 5-9=14 points with 36 PIM.
