Ducks' Artyukhin Suspended Three Games

TORONTO – Anaheim Ducks forward Evgeny Artyukhin has been suspended for three games, without pay, as the result of a slew-footing incident against Dallas Stars defenseman Matt Niskanen in NHL game #117, Oct. 21. Niskanen sustained an injury on the play.

The incident occurred at 4:23 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Artyukhin, who was suspended for two games January 19, 2009, now is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, Artyukhin forfeits $34,756.11 in salary based on the number of games (82) in a season, rather than the number of days (193). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Artyukhin will miss Saturday’s game against Columbus, Oct. 26 against Toronto and Oct. 30 against Vancouver. He will be eligible to return Oct. 31 at Phoenix.

Not sure, very typical slewfoot though, pressed him against the glass and just kicked out his legs from below him, he dropped and never got back up.

Here's a video from nhl.com.

That definitely does not look like it was worth a suspension, nevermind 3 games.

.....and then fell down again.

It should have been a call but not a suspension. They did it because he's a "repeat offender".

Did I miss something in the replay? Niskanen was standing on his skates in the corner with Turco and another Star after the play.
He may have been a bit dazed, and I agree with it being a dangerous play, but it was made to sound like he was knocked out cold and needed medical attention right there.

Lets not make this out to be the Tucker hit on Kapanen.

Yes you missed something...not only was he wobly last night afterwards, he had no clue where he was and was helped to the training room.

Cheap shot and there was no need for it, the puck wasn't near him by then. I'm happy for the suspension. Niskanen hit head first on the ice could have been a lot worse.

I'm all for suspensions like this when head injuries are involved. If it has been a clean hit into the boards then I'd be furious with the suspension, but again a very cheap move and dangerous at that!
