Ducks Acquire Trevor Gillies and Draft Pick from Rangers for Steve Rucchin
ANAHEIM, Calif. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired left wing Trevor Gillies and a conditional draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for center Steve Rucchin.
The Mighty Ducks would like to thank Steve Rucchin for his efforts and dedication over the last 10 years in Anaheim, said Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Burke. We wish him the very best of luck with the New York Rangers. Gillies, 26 (1/30/79), played in 49 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, scoring 0-2=2 points with a team-leading 277 penalty minutes. He played in 61 games with Springfield (AHL) in 2003-2004, scoring 2-1=3 points with 277 penalty minutes. A 6-3, 210-pound native of Cambridge, Ontario, Gillies signed with the Rangers as a free agent on July 20, 2004. He began his Ontario Hockey League (OHL) career in 1996-97 with North Bay and began his professional career in 1999-2000 with Lowell of the AHL and Mississippi of the ECHL. He has recorded over 200 penalty minutes in each of the last eight seasons. Rucchin, 34 (7/4/71), played in 82 games with Anaheim during the 2003-2004 season, scoring 20-23=43 points. He was drafted by Anaheim in the first round (second overall) of the 1994 NHL Supplemental Draft and appeared in his first NHL season with the Ducks in 1994-95. A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Rucchin has played in 616 NHL games (all with Anaheim), scoring 153-279=432 points. |

For some reason I can't edit my posts . I don't get how a 34 injury prone player fits in a so called rebuilding team. Looks like he'll block Immonen, and Betts from getting a shot of making the team as third line centers.

This was stupid. Why take up a roster spot with an aging guy like Rucchin? There's no way MacIntyre will make the NHL (although he'll be the AHL tough guy for sure), so now we're stuck with Rullier or Purinton for enforcer? Thats pathetic...
I almost wish they sign Worrell now. |
