Ducks Acquire Ric Jackman

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman Ric Jackman from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The Ducks also announced that they have reassigned defenseman Aaron Rome to Portland, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Jackman, 28 (6/28/78), has played in seven games with the Panthers this season, scoring 1-0=1 point with 10 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-2, 197-pound defenseman split the 2005-06 season between Pittsburgh and Florida, scoring 7-23=30 points with 52 PIM in 64 games played. He set a career single-season high in assists and tied his career high in points. Jackman was acquired by Florida from Pittsburgh in exchange for Petr Taticek on March 9, 2006.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Jackman has scored 18-48=66 points in 207 career NHL games between Dallas, Boston, Toronto, Pittsburgh and Florida. He was originally drafted by Dallas in the first round (5th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

Rome, 23 (9/27/83), made his NHL debut last night with the Ducks in Detroit, playing 14:31 and registering one shot on goal. The Nesbitt, Manitoba native has appeared in 33 games with Portland in 2006-2007, earning 4-9=13 points with 55 PIM and a +8 rating.

The 6-1, 230-pound defenseman was signed as a free agent on June 7, 2004. Rome was originally drafted by Los Angeles in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
