Ducks Acquire Brad May From Colorado
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired left wing Brad May from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for goaltender Michael Wall.
May, 35 (11/29/71), has appeared in 868 career NHL games, scoring 123-152=275 points with 2,027 penalty minutes (PIM). He has also played in 64 career playoff games, scoring 4-8=12 points with 80 PIM. A native of Toronto, Ontario, May has played in 10 games with Colorado this season, scoring 0-3=3 points. The 6-1, 220-pound forward missed the first 53 games of the season with a shoulder injury, returning to action Feb. 8 vs. Atlanta. May was drafted by Buffalo in the first round (14th overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. He played with Buffalo from 1991-1998 before being traded to Vancouver (Feb. 4, 1998) with Buffalo's third-round draft pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft for Geoff Sanderson. May had two stints with the Canucks (1998-2000 & 2002-2004) and played three seasons in Phoenix (2000-2002). May signed with Colorado as a free agent on Aug. 5, 2005. Wall, 21, (4/25/85), has played with Anaheim and Portland (American Hockey League) this season. He played in four games with the Ducks, going 2-2-0 with a 2.97 goals-against average (GAA) and .877 save percentage (SV%). He also played in 19 games with Portland, posting a 10-6-1 mark with a 3.13 GAA and .880 SV%. Wall was signed as a free agent by Anaheim on Sept. 29, 2005. In terms of toughness, May is not what he once was. Nor is he as a player. I suspect that Parros will not be dressing for many of the playoff games and Burkie is acquiring toughness that can be inserted into the lineup with greater frequency.
It will be Anaheim's depth pertaining to toughness that will give them their playoff edge. Teams will try and run Niedermayer and Pronger; Burke is getting prepared to quell the assault before it happens. But more often than not those 3 guys will rarely be playing together. Calgary especially will try and punish the big 2 d-men. It's nice to see Burkie getting ready to go to war though. |
