Drew Miller Recalled From Iowa

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled left wing Drew Miller from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Miller, 24 (2/17/74), scored 16-11=27 points with a +3 rating and six penalty minutes (PIM) in 34 games with the Chops this season. As of today, Miller leads Iowa in goals, ranks tied for first in power play goals (6) and second in points. Among active AHL leaders, he is tied for fifth in goals.

Selected in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Miller appeared in 26 games with the Ducks last season, scoring 2-3=5 points with six PIM. He made his regular season NHL debut on Oct. 6, 2007 at Pittsburgh and scored his first career NHL goal in a 3-1 Anaheim victory on Oct. 17 vs. Nashville. Miller spent the rest of 2007-08 with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in Portland, collecting 16-20=36 points with 12 PIM in 31 games. He also scored 1-7=8 points with 12 PIM in 16 Calder Cup Playoff games, helping the Pirates to an AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearance.

A native of Dover, New Jersey, Miller made his professional hockey debut in 2006-07 with Portland, finishing tied for first on the Pirates in rookie scoring and tied for third in overall scoring (16-20=36). He appeared in three games for Anaheim during the 2007 playoffs, including Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final vs. Ottawa.

From the Ducks website

Quote:

The Ducks can find solace in the fact they didn't lose the game in regulation, since they handed the Flyers plenty of opportunities in the third period with a rash of penalties. That included a four-minute high sticking call on Corey Perry, which in actuality was an elbow to the head of Claude Giroux.

And that hit is coming with more repercussions. The NHL will be announcing later today that Perry is being suspended four games for it and the Ducks are bringing up Drew Miller to take his place. (We'll have more on that later today.)
