Downey Reassigned to Grand Rapids

Quote:
Right wing Aaron Downey was reassigned to Grand Rapids on Sunday, as Tomas Holmstrom is ready to come off long-term injured reserve and return to the lineup Tuesday against Phoenix.
Holland said the club will reassess defenseman Andreas Lilja's condition today, before deciding whether to send Ericsson down. Lilja continues to experience headaches from the concussion he sustained Feb. 28. The only way Ericsson can stick around is if Lilja is placed on long-term injured reserve.
Holland said Marian Hossa (sore neck, back) should return to the lineup sometime this week.

And you were expecting.....he stays up for the rest of the season??

No, I would be questioning this issue IF Downey were to actually stay!

The guy has a goal and an assist in 4 games this year with the Wings. Pretty good production for a tough guy. You'd think that would have at least earned him a couple more games, but this is Detroit we're talking about...

Quite expected, but equally disappointing. I figure at least he got a few games in here during March, that's more than I originally anticipated. So I'll take what I can get, I guess.

The funny thing is, Babcock claims to not be against fighting. So is it Holland then?

Quote:
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock supports fighting in the NHL but would like to see it banned in the lower levels.

"We need to eliminate fighting at the minor level (ages 13 to 17) and over time it might happen at this level," Babcock said. "There is an age for driving, an age for drinking, and that's because we have to help kids make decisions."

Well I can't say this is a suprise to me... why would we want a guy that can fight and get a goal from time to time. Oh well, I do think Holmstrom deserves to be in the lineup so I say make room for him. I would've rather seen Kopecky sit for a while.

Babs likes having an enforcer in the lineup, so he supports the role as long as it's performed in a intelligent way. Downey has done a great job.

Holland is supportive of some new rule changes for fighting. I personally believe he wouldn't mind seeing it banned altogether.

Holland is in complete control of this roster.

Why does anyone "need" to be moved? Aren't teams allowed to exceed the 23 man roster limit after the trade deadline?

Go figure. Hopefully the Wings will call him back up by Saturday.

Haha. Voted 'Player of the Game' all three games he played, and also had a goal, assist, and a fight. Not surprised but...crap.

I told you guys he wouldn't last long.

But no, the kool-aid drinkers were still convinced that he would be up for the rest of the season.

Why would you EVER be optimistic about the Red Wings carrying an enforcer for more than a month? That's my question.

Whenever Downey gets recalled, it's clear that it's only for a couple games. Then he will be sent right back down.

Really the Wings team is just too good to dress Downey. We all know Downey has good skills which is why he lasted some time in the NHL now as he isn't just a fighter(way to small)

Who can they sit for Downey on a nightly basis?
