Devils Sign Travis Zajac to Eight-Year Contract Extension
Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today re-signed center Travis Zajac to a long-term contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
“During his time in New Jersey, Travis Zajac has become a solid, all-situation player and one of the core leaders of our hockey club,” said Lamoriello. Zajac, 27, is set to begin his seventh National Hockey League season, all with the Devils. Following an off-season injury, his playing time was limited to 15 regular-season and 24 playoff games in 2011-12. The 6-3, 205-lb. forward has career totals of 91 goals and 164 assists for 255 points and 128 penalty minutes in 423 appearances, reaching the 82 games-played mark four times. He also has ten goals and 16 assists for 26 points and 20 penalty minutes in 52 career playoff games. Zajac holds the New Jersey franchise record by appearing in 401 consecutive games from October 26, 2006 through April 10, 2011. He posted career highs of 25 goals, 42 assists (tie) and 67 points during the 2009-10 season. Born May 13, 1985 in Winnipeg, Man., he represented Silver Medal-winning Team Canada at the 2009 World Championships, while serving as alternate captain in 2011. He made his professional debut with Albany (AHL) in 2005-06 after two seasons at North Dakota (WCHA). While with the Fighting Sioux, Zajac advanced to the NCAA Championship as a freshman and Frozen Four tournament as a sophomore; and was named to the 2005 WCHA All-Rookie, NCAA Championship All-Tournament and NCAA East All-Tournament Teams. Zajac was New Jersey’s first choice and 20th overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Nothing bad to say about the player, or the money, but, 8 years? When are they gonna learn. 5 years seems much safer.
