Devils to name Michel Therrien Head Coach

Per source close to Therrien, MT is heading to NJ and has accepted a three year offer with announcement to come next week after finals.

Waiting for a league contact to confirm before I report on the site. Those close to Therrien saying its a done deal though and (cont)

Seriously. The only real knock against MacLean is he's only had 1 season of head coaching experience. I have a feeling that because I don't want Therrien for a coach, he's absolutely getting hired.

Oh well, maybe the Leafs will be a little better next year.

Just fits everything the Devils seem to be. An underacheving coach with a underacheving team. Not to mention Therrien loves to play the trap. Oh and you wont see any enforcers either. He likes speedy 4th lines, I think Laraque was the only one he used but thats when Laraque was doing well. Wasnt long before he got benched,

Johnny Mac was great in his 1 year as head coach in Lowell. The Devils have had sh*tty farm teams for years and this season there were a bunch of Lowell guys up with New Jersey. And despite all that, he found a way for them to make the playoffs.

There really weren't many options I would have been happy with except for MacLean or if there was a cure for cancer and Pat Burns came back.

he deserved another job, not sure if he should have gotten this one over John MacLean though.

I'm with you guys on this decision. I really thought MacLean deserved an opportunity to coach the Devils. Lou should have tried promoting from within for a change instead of his revolving door of imported coaches.

This is the same site that reported approximately two weeks ago that the Devils had offered the job to Therrien. At the time, that was not true.

Therrien is one of the favorites for the job, but there is no indication yet that anything has officially been agreed upon. I will post any information I can get on this today.

I just want to see Therrien have another one of those epic rants again. He has no problem calling out his team or players when he's pissed off.

He should start the day he is named coach (calling out his players) , with their dismal performance this post season they need to answer a few questions about their lack of effort ..

Thats not true man, he wanted both bissonette and godard in the line-up those guis icetime went down once disco dan took over in pittsburgh and he stopped calling up the biss. He likes a tougher lineup

Lou says false. Of course, Lamoriello treats most announcements like allied secrets of WW2, so who knows, but for now that's the official position.

Although the former Canadiens and Penguins coach remains a top candidate for the vacant job, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said he has made no decisions at this point and no offer has been made to anyone.
"We have not picked a coach yet," Lamoriello said this morning. "There has been no decision on anything yet. There are reasons for that."
One possible reason is that Lamoriello would like to speak with Chicago Blackhawks assistant coach Mike Haviland, who is still involved in the Stanley Cup finals.
