Devils Acquire Marek Zidlicky From Minnesota
Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today acquired defenseman Marek Zidlicky from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenseman Kurtis Foster, forwards Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux, Washington’s second-round choice in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (previously acquired), and a conditional choice in the 2013 Entry Draft. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.
Zidlicky, 35, has 14 assists and 24 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Wild this season. He has career totals of 60 goals (40 PPG) and 238 assists for 298 points and 494 penalty minutes in 547 career NHL games over eight seasons with Nashville and Minnesota. The 5-11, 190-lb. defenseman made his NHL debut with Nashville in 2003-04 by recording a career-high 53 points. Born February 3, 1977 in Most, Czech Republic, he spent four seasons, 1999 through 2003 with HIFK Helsinki (Fin.), and five seasons, 1994-1999, with Kladno (Czech). Zidlicky represented the Czech Republic at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympic Games, five World Championships, the 2004 World Cup, and two World Junior Championships. He was the New York Rangers sixth choice and 176th overall selection in the 2001 Entry Draft.

The players going to Minnesota aren't anything to write home about. Foster hasn't been good, Palmieri never broke out like how everyone thought he would (still has potential), and Veilleux is equivalent to a bag of pucks.
The picks going the other way are a bit concerning and are over-payment. The fact that Zidlicky wanted to come to NJ is comforting though. He, Patrik Elias, and Petr Sykora are all good friends so I'm guessing he won't have too much trouble fitting in there.

Haha, awesome! I don't care that we got Fozzie and Stephanie back, but the picks coming our way and Zid's cancerous ass being out of here is just fine to me!
