Detroit re-signs Ville Leino 2yrs/1.6

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4308895

Quote:
The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed forward Ville Leino to a two-year contract, a source said on Monday.

The deal is worth $1.6 million, the source said.

Leino, a 25-year-old Finnish product, was a restricted free agent.
Good signing for a guy who put up 9 pts in 13 games in his call up stint this season. Wings needed a cheap option to play in their top 6 due to the cap and that's exactly what Leino is. I think he'll be one of the very few players who manages to put up 50 points this year while making under a mill.

So i cant complain.

Detroit has done it again. Signed a dazzling forward with pretty moves that will put up 50 points... THEN fail miserably in the playoffs due to a "SUPRISING" lack of grit.

It's simply too early to judge Leino. He's another one of those obscure scouting department finds. He's still developing. So, the jury is still out for me. The downside to this-this eats up a little bit more of that sal cap space, space that could be used toward signing a gritty 3rd/4th line forward.

Id say its a good signing, very cheap cap hit, the wings didnt really have anyone else to replace him, assuming hudler leaves.

From the little I saw of Leino, he looked to me like another one of that same mold of player that plays so well in the Red Wings system but would probably be ineffective on any other team. He's not an expensive signing, and with Samuelsson and Kopecky having departed already this offseason, Detroit now has a young and cheap option to shove into those holes. Same old, same old from the Red Wings.

If you call winning last years cup then loseing in game 7 of this years cup failing I'd hate to see a team winning.

Not the team, the individual.

I'm kind of lost...who has failed misserably in the playoffs due to lack of grit then? I hate sticking up for euro players but I'd have to say nobody on the Wings has failed miserably in the playoffs.
