It was only worth a 2 minute charging call, MAYBE 5 minute major. Besides, Scott took care ofit on the ice, how it SHOULD be done.

Well, it was pretty obvious a suspension was going to come down on this hit. Even if we don't all agree with it, this is pretty much a textbook example of what the league has been trying to crack down on. The hit was high and Engelland looked to leave his feet. I was guessing 2 games since he's a first-time offender, but I guess the fact that he caused a concussion earned him the extra one.

If after the all of the suspensions handed out already and the players still don't seem to get, then I got no sympathy. We(and they)know the bar has been set insanely high yet they still do it. He left his feet and hit the head. Based on everything Shanny has done so far, how could Engo NOT think it was gonna be a problem? And why did he do it when he does'nt have to? He can cream guys without jumping.

What aggravates me the most is the fact that they take injury severity into the equation. That makes zero sense. So if someone isn't injured it's not suspendable, if they are, it's suspendable. That's just dumb. Even though it could be the same severity (ie - dangerousness of the hit).

Dumb or not I think that it has always been part of the equation. We may not have noticed it as much in the past since at no other time have the suspensions been flying off the shelves like they are now.

He aimed high and left his feet. He had no defence.
Watch the hit in slow motion. Engelland had his arms down when he made contact and Kruger was hunched over with his head down, making it an easy target. Engelland's forearm did make contact with Kruger's head, but his arms didn't come up until after the hit was delivered. He should have gotten a 2 minute penalty and 1 game for this. Didn't Pacioretty only get one game for his hit on Letang? That hit was a lot worse than this one IMO.

First I am a fan of Engelland despite HATING the Pens. Second I enjoy the hitting and tough play.
With that out of the way, he deserved it. He left his feet, threw his forearm into the head and caused a concussion. Plain and simple guys have to stop delivering head shots. Hasn't he seen first hand with Crosby the effects of that kind of dangerous hit? And what's not to understand about more punishment for causing injury? It works that way in the real world as well, which is why its different punishments for pulling a gun on someone, shooting and INJURING someone or shooting and KILLING someone.
If Engelland had a rep for dirty, rather than tough, play he would have deserved more. You can't throw hits into the head. There's too many serious concussions. That's that.

Pacioretty got three games for his hit on Letang.I thought the suspension was a little bit too much considering Engelland is a first time offender. The way Shanaban sounded,he was going to suspend him even more games, but he took into account that Engelland was a first time offender.I think that if Engelland doesn't leave his feet he lays Kruger out anyways. And I think you can argue that the main point of contact wasn't the head, but it was hit on the follow through. But regardless. The head was hit,and anytime someone gets hit in the head.A suspension is coming. It's what this game has become...

Seems high for a guy who I don't think has any prior history of suspension in the NHL. Has he been suspended before.

Pens fan here. The hit was absolutely out of line. Strange because Engelland usually plays hockey the right way. I was thinking 2 games but close enough. If someone did that to the best player on your team, any fan would be up in arms. Hey Engelland, love your game but if you want to learn how to hit watch Brooks Orpik footage. He lays people out every night, and within the rules.

There would be no suspension if he wore a Bruins jersey.

Interesting, I would have thought only 2 games from the league.

Not surprised by 3 games, he deserved it. My only gripe is that some first timers are getting $2500 fines and others are getting suspended. This definitely deserved the latter, but at least make it consistent, Shanny.

I was hoping he was going to only get one game but i was wrong. Too bad it's 3 games so no Engelland against the Flyers on the 29th.
