Derek Boogaard Suspended for Two Games

TORONTO - Minnesota Wild forward Derek Boogaard has been suspended for two games, without pay, as a result of a kneeing incident during NHL game #954 against the Edmonton Oilers, the National Hockey League announced today.

Boogaard, who was suspended for five games on Feb. 28, 2009, now is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits $21,341.46 in salary, based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (193). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

At 7:29 of the first period, Boogaard delivered a knee hit on Edmonton forward Ryan Jones. Boogaard was assessed a minor penalty for kneeing on the play.

Boogaard will miss games on Mar. 7 vs. Calgary and Mar. 9 vs. Florida. He will be eligible to return Mar. 11 at Detroit.

Would have loved to see another Boogaard/McGrattan fight tomorrow afternoon.

Not surprised by this. Pretty blatant knee.

That was a sick move by Boogaard.

Ya, thankfully the Wild have 2 side shows so if one gets suspended they can just throw the other in.

Definately a knee, and suspendable, but Boogie and Jones both said there was no intent to hurt him. The two of them actually bike together in the summers, so there is no ill will between them. Boogie missed his hit and stuck his knee out too far and hurt RJ, but the league has to send that message to Boogie.

Definitely a cheapshot but thats what the Oilers get for letting go of MacIntyre.

cheap

Dont think he meant to, but 2 games is about right.

McGrattan won't be in again this year, not the way the Sutter's are running the team.

Dumb move.

This may be the inner homer showing through, but it seems a bit over the top that Boogaard gets 2 games for missing a hit, which resulted in an inadvertant knee shot, but guys run around head hunting with zero punishment. As a Boogaard fan, I have become acustomed to the fact that he will not be getting the benefit of most calls, but the one-sidedness is getting a bit intolerable.

As stated before, Boogaard missed a hit and kneed a player on accident: two games; Richards could have ended Booth's career with a questionable hit: nothing, because he is a "skill" player.

It is what it is, but I still think it's BS, and the league really needs to be more consitant, and that goes for levying calls against all "goons".

The only positive: I'm no longer pissed that I am missing tomorrow's Flames game in order to attend the Father-In-Law's B-day party. Pro-Kart Indoors here I come.....

Boogey got what was coming...When your 6'7 270 lbs you tend hurt guys when you stick out your knee. no matter how he tries to spin it the knee was dirty...and yeah of course he is an easy target to pick on...Yep the oilers are sh-tty and letting go of Macintyre made this possibe.

Oh definitely meant to. Boogaard is good at playing the body but sticks his knee out waaay too much. I've seen it consistently in his games against Western Conference teams. Hockey Night in Canada showed a slo-mo of the collision and the direction Jones' knee went was nothing short of nasty. Deserves every bit of 2 games IMO.
