Dennis Wideman Traded to Washington

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has acquired a third round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and F Jake Hauswirth from the Washington Capitals in exchange for D Dennis Wideman. The Panthers now have 10 total selections in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft including seven in the first three rounds.

“We continue to set ourselves up to have another franchise-building Draft this summer,” said Tallon. "Our confidence in our current corps of defensemen – both in the NHL and throughout our organization – allowed us to make this trade and acquire yet another high pick in the 2011 Draft.”

Hauswirth, 23, has played 99 games for the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) registering 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points.

That was a short stay in the Sunshine State for Dennis.

Wideman is decent defenseman, but not best level in the defense.
Mike Green is also a player who sucks more or less in the defense but he helps a lot of his team in the offensive zone.
Mike Green is such like Top10 defenseman in the league but not Top3-5 guy.
Wideman has played only one solid season though in his career.,

Yeah, don't really get this trade for Washington, but that's kind of become the norm recently, it seems.

That's the last of Washington's cap space. Wideman is signed for another year at $3.9 million and change

Trade tracker says the Cats get minor league forward Jake Hauswirth and a 3rd rounder in this year's draft.

Florida's "rebuilding" process seems to be going no where real fast. Do they have any sort of hope for the future?

Wideman and McCabe were the key-players but on the other hand they wants more younger and younger players, building the future.
But maybe it was too much to gives up either McCabe or Wideman.
I could to trade only Wideman, but not McCabe as he is the soul and heart of Florida Panthers Team and Captain.

McCabe wanted to stay in Florida to be part of the rebuilding process. But he went ahead and waived his no trade clause.

Not to mention that Dennis Wideman doesn't put up Mike Green's offensive numbers either!

Wideman is frigging awful. Caps fans will grow to hate him as much as B's fans did.
