Denis Gauthier Suspended for Two Games

TORONTO - Los Angeles Kings defenseman Denis Gauthier has been suspended for two games, without pay, as a result of an incident during NHL Game #870, Feb. 19 against the San Jose Sharks, the National Hockey League announced.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Gauthier will forfeit $22,580.64. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Gauthier was assessed a minor for boarding after making contact with Sharks' forward Patrick Marleau on an icing play at 10:14 of the third period. There was no injury as a result of the play.

Gauthier will miss games against Phoenix on Feb. 21 and at Minnesota on Feb. 24. He will be eligible to return on Feb. 25 at Philadelphia.

if you didn't see it, don't make an absurd comment like that. just cause he punked kaleta (and you're still whining about it), doesn't mean he deserves it for anything he does. it wasn't dirty at all. all shoulder no elbows.

Gauthier has a pretty long history of throwing dirty hits, but this isn't even close to being worthy of a suspension in my mind. Marleau's head was lower to the ice as he was trying to stop heading into the corner. It did not look at all like Gauthier's intentions were to deliver a headshot, even if that's how it ended up. Considering there was nothing even resembling an injury from the hit, I don't understand this at all. I'm sure it's because he just got back from serving another suspension, but still, he needs to do something wrong to warrant the punishment.

Nothing really that wrong with this hit - Gauthier was suspended because he's Denis Gauthier. The guy's a knobgobbler, so I could fukin care less, but I could see how many could be angry or scratching their heads over this one. But he'll be fighting his reputation as a dirty kuntrag the rest of his career.

First of all, who is that clown of a colour man anyway? He should be suspended for asnine comments(If stupid comments warrented suspensions, this site would be a ghost town!). Secondly, Gauthier was suspended because he is Denis Gauthier. Right or not, repeat offenders are held to a different standard than first timers in the NHL. Thirdly, are any of us really surprised at the stupidity that comes out of head office in general, Cambells office in particular?

during the kings broadcast today, jim fox said that ron hextall (who sat in on the hearing with denis) said that the suspension had to do mostly with the NHL's latest peeve theyre trying to cut down on:

hard checks on icing situations.

take it for what its worth... just a big "i dont even care at this point" situation for me. kings have alot more to worry about than denis.

Two games for taking the body. The NHL goes on a new "safer game" campaign every season, last year obviously, was the blows to the head, and this year it's icing-situation contact. Two minutes at most, every d-man takes the body in that situation.
