Dallas Stars Buy Out Final Year of Bill Guerin's Contract

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has bought out the final year of right wing Bill Guerin’s contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.

“While this was a difficult decision to make, I feel that it was the best decision for both the Dallas Stars and Bill Guerin,” said Armstrong. “We appreciate all Bill has done for the Stars organization and we wish him well in the future.”

Guerin, 35, was signed as a free agent by Dallas on July 3, 2002, and skated in 216 games for the Stars, posting 159 points (72 goals and 87 assists) and 337 penalty minutes. He appeared in 14 playoff games for the Stars, recording three goals and two assists for five points with eight penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-2, 220 lb. right wing has appeared in 949 career NHL games, registering 328 goals and 335 assists for 663 points with 1,373 PIM. In 96 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, Guerin has scored 48 points (28 goals and 20 assists) with 133 penalty minutes.

Sure hope he realizes how much he truely is worth, or no one is going to sign him. IMO, he'd be lucky to get 2 million a year if he's going to play like he did last year.

I've heard that he may come back to Boston, but that was if Murray was going to Dallas. So maybe Boston can get him without any trade now!

that sucks for him. i think that the stars should have kept him. he only had one bad season. remember, 2 years ago mike modano had a horrible season with only like 45 points and bill guerin led the stars that year in goals and points so i think that they should have given him another chance. he also played decent in the post season.

All I know is that Dallas hasn't done anything but trade a promising kid in Niko Kappanen for Modry and Stefan. We still have Niinimaa on the blueline, no backup goalie and no second line center. And every team in the pacific got a lot better.

There isn't any other thread for me to wail on, so I guess I can do it on the Guerin buyout thread. He will have a good season too.

No actually, the Sharks got worse by signing Curtis Brown. Anaheim hasn't done anything this offseason either.

This will be San Jose's first full season with Thorton, so he is an extension of that and Anaheim has Pronger.

Dallas has traded for Daryl Sydor. I am pattering with excitement.

With Dallas' luck he will sign a multi-team deal with everyone in the pacific.

Rumor is that he is talking to east coast teams. That from a friend of his wife.
