Just seen it on the NHL network that he has in fact told team owner Ted Leonsis he's not returning as head coach.

EDIT - it was told to GM George McPhee. Ben with the Caps issued a new statement to clarify the NHL Network item.

This is good news. The ultra-trap he employed with Washington deprives fans of real hockey.

Fine with me, I hope he goes and coaches in the ECHL or some god forsaken place, the guy is pond scum, at least as a player he was and I still hate him for it.

He did a good job with the Caps, can't deny that, but playing the super trap is really obnoxious, he almost pulled off a miracle and I am damn grateful that he didn't.

The only players I hated more than him in my hockey watching life were Ulf and Claude Lemiuex and I would be just fine with never seeing any of them again.

Saw that coming.

Coaching Ovechkin and Semin + his problems with John Erskine, the chances that he didn't like his job were pretty high.

Pretty sure Hunter never had any intention of staying. The playoff run the Caps had opened it up to them having a chance at keeping him.

Hunter going back to London is a good decision for him, and I still hate him as a player.

At some point during a 51-day stretch, you'd think Washington Capitals defenseman John Erskine and coach Dale Hunter would speak. Accidentally, maybe.

Erskine, though, said Friday that's not the case, and that Hunter hasn't talked to him since Jan. 18, when Erskine took his legendary triple-minor on one play against the Montreal Canadiens.

Would have loved to have seen more of Hunter this season, wish things played themselves out further on the ice for him this year. Think this is the end of his time in the NHL? I have a funny feeling that it is. Go off into the sunset Hunter, you have earned it.

Lol, I was actually thinking this. He was the only coach to ever get them to a cup final, after all...and it wasn't like he was the problem in Toronto. I don't think he's the right choice, but he's surely not the worst name to coach the Caps. (I'd have to give Paul Maurice that honor )

As for Hunter, guy makes good money in the family business, running the London Knights, and there he's his own boss. Why would he want the pressure of being dicked around in the NHL, having to explain OV's ice time 82 times a season? Good for him.
