Oh no doubt, but with the salary cap it place it's fair value, nobody has a higher cap hit than Ovenchicken [who turned into an average player], although Malkin's cap hit is the same.

Wow, well atleast it's the Penguins. That much money for a guy that if he trips over the blue line and bumps his noggin could be done for good. Very stupid in my opinion.

It doesn't matter that he's Russian, here's a Russian making almost 9 million a year:

Playoff M-V-P

Ovenchicken only cares about money, period, that has nothing to do with his ethnicity.

The best player in the world takes less money to help out the team and he still gets bashed. Also, who wouldn't want Crosby on their team? Every team in the entire NHL would want him.

Maybe with all that money he can finally pay for a dentist to fix his donkey teeth. There, now people can say someone is bashing Crosby in this thread.

But seriously, the Pens had to do it, they know he's the main reason they are still in Pittsburgh, whether he is injury prone or not they couldn't afford to NOT sign him.

this is very true, but they could have gone with a deal say for 6 years at the same cap hit and have it all covered by insurance, now if in year 8 he's gets a career-ending injury, the pens are out that extra $30 million roughly that won't be covered.

I hope Crosby takes this off season to get better and recovers the best he can. I don't wish ill will on the guy.

That said, The Pens just stuck their neck out on this one. Head injuries are head injuries and you don't really know if a guy will ever be the same.

That's a ****load of money... a ****load.

No doubt there's a huge risk in signing him to this contract because of his recent health issues. But then again that's where the issue is with concussions.Who the hell knows if he'll ever get back to 100%,or if he is there now.I know every big hit that he takes most of us Pens fans will be at the edge of our seats probably for the length of his contract.

On the positive side. The Pens locked up one of the best players in the game,if not the best player in the game for what could possibly be the rest of his career. He's the face of the franchise both on and off the ice.And he's done a lot not only for the Pens, but for the city already in his short time being here.

over the course of the contract he didn't take a raise which will allow Shero to go after a big time free agent on July 1st.In this day and age of me first athletes. It's very uncommon for that to happen. And to me it shows his true character.he wants to win,and will put aside some cash to help the team do it...I'm happy that he'll be in Pittsburgh for the next twelve years, and admittedly my fingers will be crossed that he stays healthy for the next twelve years of the contract too...

In 5 years he could be a forward's version of DiPietro.

I think I was talking about Ovechkin. I actually like Kovy and Malkin.

Yashin, Semin, Ovy, Kovalev, Gonchar, Bure, Radulov, Bryzgalof, lesser extent Kovy he actually tries, just a few Russians who want the money but dont play like they earned it. Granted Gonchar had a turn around season. Perfectly legit stereotype if you ask me.
