Coyotes Sign Mike York
Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed left wing Mike York to a one-year contract.
York, 29, registered 10-11-21 and 22 penalty minutes (PIM) in 66 games with the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders last season. York collected 6-7-13 and 14 PIM in 32 games with the Islanders last season before Philadelphia acquired him for Randy Robitaille and a fifth round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft on Dec. 20, 2006. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Waterford, Michigan then recorded 4-4-8 and 8 PIM in 34 games with the Flyers. For his NHL career, York has posted 121-187-308 and 131 PIM in 515 games with the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Islanders, and Philadelphia. York was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team for 1999-2000 when he scored a career-high 26 goals among 50 points while playing all 82 games with the Rangers. He finished third in the voting for the Calder Trophy (NHL Rookie of the Year) that season. York played in the NHL All-Star Game in 2002 while in the midst of a season in which he collected 20-41-61 in 81 games with the Rangers and Edmonton. York has also recorded four seasons of 50 points or more during his NHL career. York was selected by the Rangers in the sixth round (136th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Rangers after completing a stellar four seasons at Michigan State. York was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and an NCAA All-American in both 1998 and 1999. Well, if he doesn't improve from last year I'm gonna say just his presence should guarantee the Coyotes a last place finish. Awful would be too kind to describe his play last season.

Why are the Yotes even going to try next year? They should have signed Todd Fedoruk, Kip Brennan, Reed Low and Eric Cairns - and just hope that they beat the **** out of the other teams, while Doan sneaks a puck or two in for a win every 8 games or so...
