Coyotes Sign Garth Murray to One-Year Contract
GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed center Garth Murray to a one-year contract.
Murray, 25, began last season with the Montreal Canadiens and appeared in one game before being claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers. The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Murray then suffered a season-ending shoulder injury after playing in six games and collecting 19 penalty minutes (PIM) with the Panthers. In 106 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Canadiens and Panthers, Murray has recorded 8-2-10 and 119 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in six career NHL playoff games. Murray has played in 212 career American Hockey League (AHL) games with Hartford and Hamilton, recording 26-31-57 and 508 PIM. He has also collected 2-7-9 and 41 PIM in 32 AHL playoff games. A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Murray was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (79th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. wow. I hope he will have a healthy season.
I guess he will have to play AHL most the time. Good Grinder who will also stick up for his teammates, not a bad fighter, decent #2 or #3 Fighter for every team. All I can say is WOW to the new Coyotes toughness. |

Damn, the Coyotes are looking like the Ducks of two years ago. A time notch first line and a bunch of big fast wingers willing to hit or fight at the drop of the hat. I don't know if they have the tending to go too far in the playoffs but you have to like this squad for the regular season. Playoffs or bust for Gretz this year.
I don't think my Flames are going to lead the league in FMs this year.....

Can't argue with that. He's not a great fighter, but is certainly a decent middle/light heavy who has actually taken on some pretty tough customers. Good depth signing. He's likely headed to San Antonio, but if some of the kids don't produce, or if the Yotes suffer a few injuries he's a good guy to have in the system.

Considering how much toughness the Coyotes have, it's more likely that Murray spends at least part of the season in San Antonio.

Party on Garth!
Seriously though, I'm very glad to see this kid get signed, fought his way to the show with NYR, got traded for that useless c*nt Hossa, and has had a rough couple years since. Whether this is for Phoenix or San Antonio, it's great to see a guy like Garth get signed.

Good to see Maloney picking up spare tough guys. Phoenix went from a wimpy boring team to one worth watching again.

More toughness in Phoenix? I like this mentality, but a lot of these guys would have a better shot cracking an NHL lineup elsewhere at this point.
