Coyotes Sign David Schlemko to Two-Year Contract Extension

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed defensemen David Schlemko to a two-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are very pleased to sign David to a multi-year contract," said Maloney. "David is a skilled defenseman and has developed into a reliable player for us. In today's game where skating, mobility and puck movement are so important for defensemen, David's talent makes us a better team."

The 6-foot-1, 197-pound Schlemko has recorded 0-2-2 in nine games with the Coyotes this season. He ranks second on the team with 26 blocked shots.

The 25-year-old native of Edmonton, Alberta appeared in a career-high 46 games with Phoenix in 2011-12, collecting 1-10-11 and 10 PIM. He posted a plus-7 rating and ranked fourth on the team with 88 blocked shots.

In 118 career NHL games with the Coyotes, Schlemko has recorded 6-27-33 and 44 PIM.

Schlemko was originally signed by the Coyotes as a free agent on July 19, 2007.
