Coyotes Sign David Hale to Two-Year Contract

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed defenseman David Hale to a two-year contract.

Hale, 27, recorded two assists and 46 penalty minutes (PIM) in 58 regular season games with the Calgary Flames last season. He also appeared six playoff games for Calgary.

The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Hale began the 2006-07 season with New Jersey and appeared in 43 games for the Devils before being traded to Calgary on Feb. 27, 2007. Following the trade, he played in 11 regular season games and two playoff contests for Calgary.

In 215 career NHL games with New Jersey and Calgary, Hale has recorded 11 assists, 175 PIM and a plus-17 rating. The Colorado Springs, Colorado native has also collected two assists and 20 PIM in 17 career playoff games.

Hale was originally drafted by New Jersey in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He played three seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of North Dakota where he registered 10-16-26 and 191 PIM in 104 games. He was named a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Third Team All-Star following his junior year and played in the 2001 NCAA National Championship Game as a freshman.

I liked the Hale Storm as a #7 guy. He'd sit for months, then when needed didn't look out of place. Not sure where he'd sit in Phoenix, but he's a good guy.

And he's married to this
No, it's Cale Hulse that's married to her.

Good try though, Thrill!

Yikes. Not the guy I would want to play with Keith Yandle. Not happy one bit.

****, he's just like Matt Jones: no offense and is a pu$$y. We better sign Smith.

Jovanoski-Michalek
Morris-Sauer
Hale-Yandle
Jones/Fata

So far. Really disappointed with this move.

Hale is an ok defenseman. He certainly doesn't have any sort of offense but he isn't bad defensively. He's also not afraid to drop the gloves either.

From what I saw of him in Calgary, he sucks. He has been a pu$$y ever since he put the visor on.

You may have seen differently when he was in NJ.

Hale will go on occasion and he's also not afraid to throw hits and when he was with NJ I don't seem to remember him making any boneheaded plays. Even before the visor he never had alot of FM's, just a physical stay at home kinda defenseman, not a bad guy for the 3rd D-pair.

i would switch sauer and yandle around. give yandle a chance to be the offensive d-man that he is supposed to be. and leave hale with sauer so sauer can clean up hale's messes.

Hale isn't that bad and he certainly isn't my definition of a *****. I'd much rather have him as the #6 defenseman than Matt Jones. Of course he wouldn't be my top priority if I were to make a decision but it could be much worse. We could have signed Daniel Tjarnqvist.

Not a terrible pick up if you don't expect much more than being a solid #6 guy out of him.
