Phoenix Coyotes General Manager
Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed right wing
Brian McGrattan to a one-year contract.
McGrattan, 26, was acquired from the
Ottawa Senators on June 25, 2008 in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
McGrattan recorded three assists and 46 penalty minutes (PIM) in 38 games with the Senators last season. The 6-foot-4, 234-pound McGrattan has registered 2-8-10 and 287 PIM in 143 career NHL games over three seasons, all with Ottawa. In 2005-06, he set career-highs in goals (2), assists (3), points (5), PIM (141) and games played (60).
From 2002-2005, McGrattan appeared in 196 games with Binghamton of the American Hockey League (AHL), recording 25-22-47 and 1,051 PIM. In 2004-05, McGrattan broke the AHL single-season penalty minute record with 551 PIM.
A native of Hamilton, Ontario, McGrattan was originally drafted by the
Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
