Coyotes Sign 2007 First Round Draft Pick Nick Ross

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed defenseman Nick Ross to an entry level contract. Ross will report to the Coyotes’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.

Ross was selected by the Coyotes in the first round (30th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. With the signing of Kyle Turris (3rd overall) on Monday, the Coyotes have now signed both of their 2007 first round draft choices.

Ross, 19, recently completed his fourth season in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He began the 2007-08 campaign with the Regina Pats, recording 3-25-28 and 60 penalty minutes (PIM) in 41 games. After being traded to the Kamloops Blazers on Jan. 5, Ross collected 5-14-19 and 55 PIM in 31 games. He also added two assists in four playoff games for Kamloops.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Ross appeared in one NHL preseason game for the Coyotes this year and logged 22:50 of ice time in the contest.

The 6-foot-1, 194-pound Ross appeared in 214 career WHL games with Regina and Kamloops, collecting 22-80-102 and 242 PIM. He also registered 1-8-9 and 26 PIM in 20 career WHL playoff games.
