Coyotes Ship Yanic Perreault to Toronto

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Brendan Bell and a 2nd round draft choice in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for center Yanic Perreault and a 5th round draft choice in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Bell, 23, registered 1-4-5 and 19 penalty minutes (PIM) in 31 games played with Toronto this season. In 2005-06, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario played 1 game for Toronto and 70 games with the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, recording 6-37-43 and 99 PIM.

In 2 seasons with the Maple Leafs, Bell has registered 1-4-5 and 19 PIM in 32 career games. Bell was selected by Toronto in the 3rd round (65th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Perreault recorded 19-14-33 and 20 PIM in 49 games with the Coyotes this season. In 14 seasons with Toronto, Los Angeles, Montreal, Nashville and Phoenix, Perreault has registered 236-261-497 and 364 PIM in 789 career games. The Coyotes signed Perreault as a free agent on October 30, 2006.

Yanic is the undisputed faceoff champion of the league. Should help out on the PP.

Horrible trade...Yani was the only thing we had going for us after Nagy left. Looks like the Yotes are cleaning out the pipes...not impressed...were giving up good players for next to nothing in return. Branden Bell should sprout shortly but we'll see.

bit much, I liked all that young talent on the Leafs, but if this pushes them into a playoff spot, then its worth it.

ya yotes are unloading, heard nolan isn't going anywhere but boynton and others still might be heading elsewhere.

Good to hear Nolan will stay. Enough with the draft picks we need a star.

I don't like this deal at all. Perreault's been good here, and also expressed that he would like to stay, so they certainly could've kept him for the next couple years if they wanted to. Instead you give him up for a 2nd round pick and a dman who hasn't impressed whatsoever at the NHL level. The Yotes desperately need legit scoring forwards, and they get rid of Nagy, Comrie, Saprykin, and now Perreault. I don't know what the hell their plan is, unless it's to stockpile picks and continue to miss the playoffs for the next few years.

I think the Leafs paid a lot, but they got a guy who can be vital to a team in their position. I'm not sure he'll give them enough to even make it to the playoffs, but any team could use a Perrault this time of year.

I like Perrault and am glad he has returned. However ...

This is the Leafs healthy Line-up ...

Poni - Sundin - Antro
O'neil - Stajan - Steen
Tucker - Perrault - Wellwood
Peca - Pohl - Deveraux/Battaglia
The Scratches: Belak/Green/Newbury/Ondrus ...

Sounds like some fun hockey

Belak though would be put back on D. I think they would send down Deveraux to keep Belak in the line-up. But seya later Travis Green. You forgot Kilger though.

Yanic has done a great job with the Yotes this year but his max is pretty well what he has done this year. Plus he is long in the tooth.

Good trade for the Yotes to build up the future.
