Coyotes Recall Murley, Reassign Carcillo

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled left wing Matt Murley from San Antonio of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Coyotes also re-assigned left wing Daniel Carcillo to San Antonio.

Murley, 28, has recorded 11-27-38 and 20 penalty minutes (PIM) in 48 games this season. He currently leads San Antonio in points (38) and assists (27).

The Troy, New York native signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on July 20, 2007. He appeared in 61 games for Albany (AHL) last season, collecting 23-32-55 and 18 PIM to rank second on the team in both points and assists.

In 59 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, he has recorded 2-6-8 and 38 PIM. He has registered 82-146-228 and 207 PIM in 325 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre, Albany and San Antonio. In 2004, he scored two goals and added in assist for PlanetUSA in the AHL All-Star Game. The 6-foot-1, 206-pound Murley was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round (51st overall) of the 1999 Entry Draft.

Murley played his collegiate hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he graduated as the school’s 11th all-time leading scorer with 74-101-175 in 137 career games.

Carcillo, 22, has recorded 5-7-12 and a league-leading 204 (PIM) in 36 games with the Coyotes this season. He missed 16 games from Dec. 22 to Jan. 24 due to a knee injury. Carcillo has also collected a goal and an assist in two games with San Antonio this season.

The King City, Ontario native played 18 games with the Coyotes last season after being acquired from Pittsburgh along with a third round choice in the 2008 Entry Draft in exchange for forward Georges Laraque on Feb. 27, 2007. Carcillo registered 4-3-7 and 74 PIM after making his NHL debut with the Coyotes on Mar. 3, 2007.

The 5-foot-11, 203-pound Carcillo spent two seasons with Wilkes-Barre (AHL), recording 32-22-54 and 494 PIM in 103 games.

Carcillo was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft. In 54 career NHL games with the Coyotes, he has recorded 9-10-19 and 278 PIM.

W T F is Phoenix doing??????

I'm guessing it's because of his minor push of the linesman... but still. What a weak squad.

Could have seen this one coming. He got the gate and a gamer. There goes any hope for anything to happen if any teams play the yotes....officially one of if not the softest in the league.

Since the Isles called up Brennan today... I'd have to say the Yotes are on par with the Habs as being the most pus5ified teams out there.

Very gay.

First Gratton, now Carcillo, doesn't Gretzky realize that the only reason he can still walk today is because of guys like Marty McSorley?

He will be back.. This is a teach a lesson send down. Carcillo is out of control and is on the line of getting a 30 gamer by some of his antics.

WTF? If San Antonio played Phoenix in a game, San Antonio would be bending the Yotes over and they'd be made to beg for more...

Haha! Someone in a certain PIM league is huddled in a corner crying his eyes out!

Sucks to see him get sent down, but I'm sure he'll be brought back up at one point.

Stupid move by the 'Yotes, and it does suck to see him get sent down...

Not only was the guy a good agitator, but he could play the game. It puzzles me as to why Phoenix would do this... they're now one of the weakest teams in the league along with Montreal and Florida.

Carcillo's only 23 though, and the fact that he can fight and still has some skill - he will definitely be called up again. So I wouldn't worry too much. I think Phoenix likes this kid but they may not be happy with the misconduct he got.

F*ck you Wayne. You punish him for one tiny push? He made a mistake, but this guy can help your team be competitive, why send him down?

"One mistake?" No no, this kid always gets additional minutes because of his mouth and attitude. He has had a problem since day one. I love him to death but he is not disciplined what-so-ever.

I guess you're right, but sending him down definitely leaves a void in terms of toughness in Phoenix's lineup. I don't understand this decision.
