Coyotes Recall Lehoux and Taffe From San Antonio

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have recalled right wing Yanick Lehoux and center Jeff Taffe from the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

Lehoux, 24, ranks 5th in AHL scoring with 62 points in 59 games played with San Antonio this season. The Montreal native leads the Rampage in goals (25), assists (37), points, and plus/minus (+11). He recently compiled a 12-game point streak (Jan. 12 – Feb. 6) during which he registered 6-9-15.

Last season, Lehoux set a Coyotes’ franchise record for the fastest goal by a player making his NHL debut by scoring 65 seconds into a game at Minnesota on Nov. 8, 2005.

The Coyotes originally acquired the 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward on waivers from Los Angeles on Nov. 5, 2005 before the Kings re-acquired him on waivers on Nov. 25, 2005. The Coyotes re-acquired Lehoux from Los Angeles for Tim Jackman on Mar. 9, 2006.

Lehoux was selected by Los Angeles in the 3rd round (86th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Taffe, 26, has recorded 20-19-39 and 22 penalty minutes (PIM) in 59 games with San Antonio this season. He ranks 3rd on the team in goals and T-3rd in points. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound center leads the Rampage with 9 power-play goals this season.

In 81 career games with the Coyotes, Taffe has collected 11-11-22 and 24 PIM. The native of Hastings, Minnesota also appeared in 2 NHL games with the New York Rangers last season without recording any points or penalty minutes.

The Coyotes re-acquired Taffe from the Rangers for Martin Sonnenberg on Jan. 24, 2006. The Coyotes had traded Taffe to the Rangers for Jamie Lundmark on Oct. 18, 2005. Phoenix originally acquired Taffe with Ladislav Nagy, Michal Handzus, and a 1st round choice in the 2002 Entry Draft (Ben Eager) from St. Louis for Keith Tkachuk on Mar. 13, 2001. Taffe was selected by St. Louis in the 1st round (30th overall) in the 2000 Entry Draft.

Yeah I agree. These two guys are playing for their qualifying offers. They get 20 games to do something impressive or they will become UFA's July 1st.
