Coyotes Recall Garth Murray From San Antonio

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled center Garth Murray from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.

Murray, 26, has appeared in nine games for San Antonio this season, recording 4-1-5 and 32 penalty minutes (PIM). His is tied for the team-lead in goals and ranks 4th in points and PIM. Murray also scored two goals in seven preseason games for the Coyotes this year.

Murray began last season with the Montreal Canadiens and appeared in one game before being claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Murray then suffered a season-ending shoulder injury after playing in six games and collecting 19 PIM with the Panthers.

In 106 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Canadiens and Panthers, Murray has recorded 8-2-10 and 119 PIM. He has also appeared in six career NHL playoff games.

Murray has played in 221 career AHL games with Hartford, Hamilton and San Antonio, recording 30-32-62 and 540 PIM. He has also collected 2-7-9 and 41 PIM in 32 AHL playoff games.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Murray was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (79th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Murray will be available to play when the Coyotes face the Calgary Flames at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Arizona and XTRA Sports 910.

I don't think this can be good news if you are a McGrattan fan.

He's a good physical player. Not a bad call up.

Murray is a center, Gratts is a winger, cant imagine this overly affecting him.

I actually don't think this will have too much of an impact on McGrattan. As was mentioned, we've BARELY seen any of him, so if McGrattan's gonna sit anyway I'm all for having Murray in there instead of one of the underproducing youngsters. Word is Murray's playing for Turris against Calgary tomorrow.

I guess what i'm thinking is if Murray comes up and plays real well it will be even easier for Gretzkyfukoff to keep sitting McGrattan and going with the team toughness BS.

Yeah, that's probably true. Unfortunately I just don't think we'll be seeing much of McGrattan this year. Just to give you an idea, he's been scratched against Anaheim, L.A., Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and Montreal. If he doesn't play against those teams then I don't see when he would, barring several injuries. Sucks too cause a few of the youngsters ahead of him on the depth chart have done VERY little.

Knew this was coming. At least, this makes the scratching of McGrattan easier to bare for everyone.

So why the **** did they trade for Gratts in the first place? Whata ****ing disgrace. They acquire him and Maloney talks about ''how excited'' he is about getting Gratts. Then he signs Fedoruk. Then during the season there's an injury? Let's call up someone from teh AHL even though Gratts is right there itching to play. ****ing brutal. Gratts got shafted by teh Sens, and he is getting shafted big time by the Yotes. Send him down already and let him play in the AHL, stop wasting his ****ing time in the pressbox. Is he actually going to, you know, play at all this season?

Gratts should play but at the end of the day he is an awful player, completey useless out here. murray can play and will have to do the job, coaches really dont care if you lose the fights they could care less, Coaches want someone who can play the game and take care of the dirty work. It is the new nhl.
