Coyotes Reassign Vandermeer, Recall Carcillo and Thomas
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled left wing Daniel Carcillo and right wing Bill Thomas from the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL). Left wing Pete Vandermeer has been assigned to San Antonio.
Carcillo, 23, has recorded 5-7-12 and a league-leading 204 penalty minutes (PIM) in 36 games with the Coyotes this season. He missed 16 games from Dec. 22 to Jan. 24 due to a knee injury. Carcillo has also collected 2-1-3 and 16 PIM in five games with San Antonio this season. The King City, Ontario native played 18 games with the Coyotes last season after being acquired from Pittsburgh along with a third round choice in the 2008 Entry Draft in exchange for forward Georges Laraque on Feb. 27, 2007. Carcillo registered 4-3-7 and 74 PIM after making his NHL debut with the Coyotes on Mar. 3, 2007. The 5-foot-11, 203-pound Carcillo spent two seasons with Wilkes-Barre (AHL), recording 32-22-54 and 494 PIM in 103 games. Carcillo was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft. In 54 career NHL games with the Coyotes, he has recorded 9-10-19 and 278 PIM. Thomas, 24, has played in six games for the Coyotes this season. He has also recorded 16-16-32 and 28 penalty minutes (PIM) in 46 games with the Rampage. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Thomas registered 8-6-14 and 2 PIM in 24 games for the Coyotes last season. He also appeared in 47 games for San Antonio, recording 13-20-33 and was selected to play in the AHL All-Star Game but was unable to participate due to a call-up to Phoenix. Thomas made his NHL debut on Mar. 28, 2006 after signing with the Coyotes as a free agent. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has collected 9-8-17 in 39 career NHL games. Vandermeer, 32, made his NHL debut on Sunday with the Coyotes. He has recorded 0-3-3 and a team-leading 210 penalty minutes (PIM) in 21 games this season for the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. A native of Red Deer, Alberta, Vandermeer currently ranks 5th all-time in the AHL with 2,374 career PIM. Entering this season, Vandermeer had led his team in PIM in seven of his 11 professional campaigns. Vandermeer has recorded 51-64-115 in 494 career AHL games with seven teams. The 6-foot, 209-pound forward registered 2-5-7 and 129 PIM in 26 games with Hershey last season. He led the AHL with 398 PIM while with Philadelphia in 2003-04. In 2000-01, Vandermeer posted 19-18-37 and 240 PIM in 62 games with Providence for his best offensive season in the AHL.

No surprise here. You knew his stay would be very short. At the end of the day though at least they gave a guy who's been busting his ass his entire career in the minors a chance to play an NHL game, so that was nice at least. Also good to hear Carcillo's back.

Really? I admit I was excited to see ol Pete in there mixing it up tonight but realistically how much ice time did you think he was going to see? 3 minutes at the most, and quite possibly he would have mixed it up with Barch. Phoenix has plenty of players who aren't goons like Vandermeer but, they will throw down when need be. I think tonight will be exciting and will continue to follow the pace of the last few days of hockey.
