Coyotes Re-Sign Josh Gratton

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced that the Coyotes have re-signed left wing Josh Gratton to a one-year contract.

Gratton, 24, recorded 1-1-2 in 52 games last season. The 6-foot-2, 214-pound forward also led the Coyotes and ranked 2nd in the NHL last season with 188 penalty minutes (PIM). The Coyotes collected a record of 25-25-2 in games in which Gratton was in the lineup last season.

Gratton was also named the Coyotes’ Man of the Year last season for his commitment and dedication to the community.

The Coyotes acquired Gratton along with two second round selections from the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft for Denis Gauthier on Mar. 9, 2006. He scored his first NHL goal with the Coyotes on Apr. 11, 2006 versus Colorado.

Gratton has registered 2-1-3 and 232 PIM in 66 career NHL games with Philadelphia and the Coyotes.

Good job by the Yotes.
Gratton is one of the most entertaining fighters in the league. Right now I would consider him a LHW, but I think he will definitely turn into a good heavyweight in this league next year (and you could even debate that he's a HW right now).

And CC28, Carcillo is under contract already for the Yotes. They are very excited about that kid as well.

You've gotta love this guy. One of the most entertaining fighters and players in the league. Good move to re-sign him.

Gratton filed for arbitration because he didn't want a two-way deal, so my guess is this is one-way.

Yup. It's a one way deal worth $550,000.00.

Great signing by the Yotes. They probably aren't going to be too good next year but at least they will be tough and will have the most entertaining fighter in the league on their team.

Sweet. I definitely like what Gratton brings to the Yotes. Hopefully he can develop to be a better all-around player (defensively at least), so he can secure a spot in the NHL for more years to come.

Good to see Phoenix wasn't afraid to sign a guy who is always ready to tee it up...
