Coyotes Acquire Zimmerman From Devils for Cormier

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Sean Zimmerman from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for left wing Kevin Cormier. Zimmerman will take part in the upcoming Coyotes Rookie Camp and Training Camp.

Zimmerman, 21, spent last season with the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League (AHL), recording six assists and 47 penalty minutes (PIM) in 66 games. He also skated in eight games with the Trenton Devils of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

In 2006-07, the native of Denver, Colo. represented the United States in the World Junior Championships. He also completed his junior hockey career by collecting 2-12-14 and 69 PIM in 60 games with Spokane of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In four seasons with Spokane, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Zimmerman recorded 10-49-59 and 165 PIM in 270 games. He was originally drafted by New Jersey in the sixth round (170th overall) of the 2005 Entry Draft.

Cormier, 22, played for the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League (CHL) last season, collecting 3-2-5 and 104 PIM in 23 games. He was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the sixth round (168th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft.

A good move for Cormier. More than likely will be in the AHL with Lowell.

I'd like to see what he can do at the AHL level, he's got pretty decent hockey sense for a fighter and certainly has some skill.

Will Cormier have a chance at making Lowell this year?

The Devils certainly like to keep things in the family - they drafted Cormier's kid brother Patrice in June.

Cormier seems like a fun aggresive player, i've never seen him before, but based on his Fight Totals and PM, i like the trade for NJ

Cormier's a monster. A pretty big kid and a lefty with a heavy punch. He fights wide open too.

I wonder who, between Cormier and Leblond, will spend more time in Lowell vs. Trenton this year?

Should be a no brainer, Cormier is bigger, a better fighter and a better player.

And Cormier beat the living daylights out of PLLL when they fought.

The trend in Lowell the last couple of seasons has been that they have refused to dress a tough guy majority of the time.
Let's hope things will change and Cormier will get a fair shot to play in the AHL this season.

Cormier, 22, is ticketed for a spot with the Devils' minor league affiliate in Lowell, Mass., but he will not be ready for training camp after injuring his knee this summer. Although the 6-3, 235-pound Cormier is skating again and will not need surgery, he will not be physically ready for the training camp grind.

Apparently, Cormier won't be ready come training camp, but he'll be there in either Lowell or Trenton to start the season.

Hopefully Cormier gets a chance to play in the AHL this year. With all the signings by Phoenix this summer there simply wasn't any room for him in San Antonio.

If Lowell plays Cormier I would be shocked and very happy.
He has the potential to be a top 5 fighter in his first season. He is just a heck of an great fighter. But I dont think he is really a better player than Leblond, both are pure Fighters,
so I would be surprised to see one playing every game.

But hey, its a great trade for Lowell fans.

Great for NJ Devil fans too. I hope to see this kid the season after this year but probably two years from now, I hope. Reminds me of Laraque...but more aggressive
