Coyotes Acquire Rozsival In Exchange for Wolski

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Michal Rozsival (MEE-khahl, roh-ZIH-vahl) from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Wojtek Wolski (VOI-tehk, VOHL-skee).

“I know Michal well from my time with the Rangers in New York,” said Maloney. “He is an intelligent, puck moving defenseman who can play heavy minutes against good players. He will make our strong defense even better.”

Rozsival, 32, has recorded 3-12-15 and 22 penalty minutes (PIM) in 32 games this season for the Rangers. He was third on the team in average ice time (22:02).

The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Rozsival finished the 2009-10 season ranked second among team defensemen in assists (20), blocked shots (130) and also ranked second with a plus-six rating on the road, and third in average ice time (21:26) . He was one of four Rangers to skate in all 82 games. The Rangers posted a record of 10-2-6 when he registered a point. Rozsival skated in his 600th career NHL game on Jan. 9 at Boston.

In 669 career NHL games with New York and Pittsburgh, the Vlasim, Czech Republic native has registered 60-181-241 and 535 PIM. Additionally, Rozsival has collected 4-10-14 in 33 playoff games with the Rangers and Penguins. Rozsival was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (105th overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

In 36 games with the Coyotes this season, Wolski recorded 6-10-16 and 10 penalty minutes.

Rosival is a defence man right? If so surely these really spreads the Rangers thin with Del Zotto under performing and Redden in the minors who are they left with Staal and Eminger?

Is Wolski a bad locker room guy cause these is his 3rd team in 2 years

Probably had something to do with Wolski's 12 goal pace at 3.8 million a year. The Rangers have a lot of youth on D now.

I'm surprised Wolski is having an off year. He seemed to be fine last year when he was traded to Phoenix for Peter Mueller.

Assuming Wolski finds his game, it's a good move for the Rangers. Good replacement for Alexander Frolov (who was struggling himself).

I'd rather pay $6 million a year for Wolski at that pace than trade him for Rozsival. What a horrible move. Maloney was great last year but he's lost his mind on this one.

Good trade for the Rangers. Wolski may be having a bad year but he is still only 24 years old and has two 20 goal seasons. The fact that the Rags are saving cap space with this trade is just icing on the cake.

It's a win-win. Rangers get a good young player. Phoenix loses a forward, so Biz should get into the lineup more. Unless they make a call-up of course.

I had him in my fantasy league last year and he did very good for me. As for finally getting rid or Rosi, THANK YOU LORD. Our Dfense gets tougher just watching him leave. Now if we can get a tough dman Id be happy.

Redden and Rosi are both gone this year so its a happy year for the Rangers fans hhah

Rozsival was making 5 million and had some skills but sucked on the powerplay and made alot of turnovers. This guy is 24 and had a decent year last year and Frolov was playing sh*tty so maybe Torts will get this guy to perform! I'm curious what his cap hit is because maybe the Rangers can afford to make another move!
Sather needs two things badly! A center to take faceoffs with Drury and a powerplay QB because the Rangers are a disaster on draws and the powerplay sucks!
Gaborik playing well would help also obviously!

Thank You-so he's not cheap either! They save 1.2 million and pick up 8 years in age!
Time will tell but I think it's a decent deal!

I am scratching my head on this one. What the hell is PHX thinking?
