Corey Perry Suspended Four Games

NEW YORK - Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry has been suspended for four games, without pay, for elbowing Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux during the third period of NHL Game #564 Friday night, the National Hockey League announced.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Perry will forfeit $114,516.12. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Perry will miss Anaheim's game against Phoenix Jan. 4, the home-and-home series against Los Angeles Jan. 6 and 8, and versus Tampa Bay Jan. 9. He will be eligible to return Jan. 11 against New Jersey.

Oh great, Shaud19 is here and ready to cry foul that this was a suspension and Gauthier got nothing...

I saw the "bo" and it was pretty blatant. wasn't even a case of him getting his arms up on a hit or anythign. Giroux was driving to the net and Perry on the back check went and just elbowed him in the head. They called it a high stick but the replay shows that Perry did it intentionally. He looked right at his head before throwing it. Not sure why he was throwing the elbow either.

I do know that Knuble and Getzlaf got tangled up earlier in the game and Getzlaf was p'd at Knuble so maybe he thought Giroux was Knuble and was getting payback? Either way, its unfortunate it happend in the third or else I'm certain Richards and Perry would have had a date.

I'm not sure 4 games is necessary. In my mind 2 would have been suffice enough.

here's the video link

If that doesn't work the video is called "Corey Perry elbows Claude Giroux". It was a well deserved suspension and was deemed the appropriate amount of games.

Thanks icehocheychick(a newbie!). Cheap play, deliberate to the head, well after the play. Deserving of 4 but I am surprised he got that many, that fast. I wonder if the Sanderson tragedy helped"speed things up"?. Rough, tuff hockey is great(or else none of us would be on this site, duh!) but this sort of thing is'nt. Any word on how Giroux is?

Now that I've seen the clip, that was definitely a deliberate elbow to the head by Perry, and it warranted discipline from the league. Any word on if Giroux was injured on the play? Because if he wasn't, than this is more inconsistency by the league when it comes to their headshot crackdown. They give Perry 4 games, yet when a flying elbow from Mottau directly causes a 3 month injury for Frans Nielsen, he gets 2 games. Either way, the league needs to create a precedent and stick to it for this kind of disciplinary action, because they've been all over the place so far.

Giroux returned to the game, but he is not playing tonight. Woke up woozy, possible concussion.

If it is a concussion, that makes it more legitimate to give Perry 4 games, but the league still needs to be more consistent on this issue.

Agreed. I hate Perry. He's a cheap player who pulls a ton of horse-sh*t moves, so it's about time he got suspended.
