Comeau, Hillen don't accept Q.O's

Quote:
Blake Comeau and Jack Hillen decided to let tonight’s deadline pass without signing their Qualifying Offers from the Islanders. This means the 23-year old right wing and 23-year old defenseman are now restricted free agents with little leverage. Short of receiving a rare offer sheet from another NHL team, they realistically only have the option of playing in Europe if they do not like their contract offers from the Islanders.

That's just the way it's going to go."

They're still restricted free agents. They're both probably trying to get a one-way contract, which Comeau deserves in my opinion. But since they jerked him around the beginning of last season, I'm not sure how high the organization really is on him, even though to me he looks like one of the only young supporting players who may amount to anything.

I'm not a huge fan of Hillen, but the team desperately wants him to become the next Chris Campoli. I don't think he will be and definitely don't think he has earned a 1-way deal, but I do think they'll try to find a way to resign him.

They have no leverage whatsoever, so they are either playing in Europe next season or sitting around the house with no jobs, it's simple as that. Comeau should get a 1 way deal but Hillen needs to work on his game and realize that he would be the first callup.
