Colorado's McCormick Suspended for Two Games
TORONTO – Colorado Avalanche forward Cody McCormick has been suspended for two games, without pay, for a high sticking incident in NHL Game #1014 against the Minnesota Wild, the National Hockey League announced today.
McCormick was assessed a double minor for high sticking Minnesota forward Cal Clutterbuck at 11:47 of the second period. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, McCormick will forfeit $5,618.28. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. McCormick will miss Saturday's game at Edmonton and March 15 at Vancouver. He will be eligible to return March 17 when the Avalanche face the Wild in Minnesota. |

It wasn't too bad, but definitely a bit dirty. He got a double minor for high sticking on the play. I don't know if he should have gotten 2 games for this, I can see 1 or no suspension at all, but it was an unnecessary hit to the face.

Codys been playing a bit nasty as of late. His cross check to the face in the Rangers game is what got that game going to my liking. Maybe Tucker has rubbed off on him, either way thats the hockey I want to watch. Also Clutterbuck had ran Adam Foote earlier and put him out of the game. After the crosscheck he layed there like he'd been shot, there wasn't even any blood.
As for the takedown, I liked that too. He was getting ragdolled and his punches were coming up a foot short. He did what he had to do with that beast. Have a nice vaction Cody! Last edited by AvsFanatic; 03-13-2009 at 07:11 PM. |

As a fight fan you should cringe any time you see a takedown like that! That is a perfect example of how guys get seriously hurt in fights. I applaud McCormick for dropping them after a dirty play, but if you don't want to throw punches then keep the gloves on. Bogus takedown at the end.

They risk injury everytime they go on the ice. It was in the spur of the moment, nothing intentional about it. He was suspended for the crosscheck, which probably was intentional. In my eyes it was an act of desperation with just a bunch of woulda, coulda, should ofs. |

Clutterbuck ran Foote and took him out of the game. McCormick is a bit nasty but he got some payback on Clutterbuck, not a big fan of a stick to the face, a mugging or challenge to a fight would have worked for me.
What I dislike the most is the way McCormick took down Scott, if you really want to stop players getting hurt this should be the topic for discussion, deliberat takedowns. The lock style of fighting promotes inadvertant takedowns already, and to hear the announcers yell "AND MCCORMICK GETS THE TAKEDOWN" sums up how we have all gotten used to this big problem. Suspension is fine, I do not have a problem with it. Last edited by 5min4fighting; 03-13-2009 at 09:23 PM. Reason: Forgot to mention suspension |
