Colorado Signs Forward Paul Carey

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Paul Carey to a two-year, entry-level contract. He will report to Colorado’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.

Carey, 23, just capped off his collegiate career by helping Boston College win the 2012 NCAA championship this past Saturday (April 7) in Tampa, Fla. The senior forward was named to the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team after scoring three goals in the Frozen Four, including the game-winner in the national title game against Ferris State. It was Carey’s second national championship, as he also won as a sophomore at B.C. in 2010.

Carey appeared in all 44 games for the Eagles this season, tallying 18 goals and 12 assists for 30 points. The Boston native finished fourth on the team in goals and was seventh in points. Colorado’s fifth-round selection (135th overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft, Carey finished his college career with 86 points (45g/41a) in 147 games.

“We are pleased to be signing Paul to his first pro contract,” said Avalanche General Manager/ Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “He was part of a very successful program at Boston College and we look forward to seeing him with Lake Erie.”
