Colorado Signs David Koci
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has signed free agent forward David Koci to a one-year contract.

“David is a fierce competitor who will add grit and toughness to our lineup,” said Avalanche General Manager Greg Sherman.

Koci, 28, appeared in 37 combined games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis Blues during the 2008-09 campaign, totaling two points (1g/1a) and 141 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-6, 238-pound left wing skated in 33 contests with Tampa Bay and ranked second on the club with 132 penalty minutes. He also saw action in four games with St. Louis, recording nine penalty minutes.

Selected 146th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2000 Entry Draft, Koci made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2006-07 season.

The Prague, Czech Republic native has appeared in 64 career NHL games, recording two points and 297 penalty minutes.

This deal became something of a necessity, I guess, once Lappy signed with the Flyers.

Supposedly worth 575k, for one year?

Hope they use him - would be great to see a Boogey/Koci matchup a couple times next season.

Hockey Buzz says it's $525,000 for one year.
