Clarke MacArthur Suspended for Preseason Plus Two More
NEW YORK – Toronto Maple Leafs forward Clarke MacArthur has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason and two regular-season games, without pay, for an illegal hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader during a preseason game on September 30, National Hockey League Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, MacArthur will forfeit $35,135.14. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at the end of the third period and no penalty was assessed on the play.

MacArthur will miss a preseason game tonight vs. Detroit and regular season games Oct. 6 vs. Montreal and Oct. 8 vs. Ottawa. He is eligible to return Oct. 15 vs. Calgary.

It amazes me that these guys simply don't care. There is very little respect shown by so many players. I like that the Leaugue is addressing the bull**** hits, but geez, what is it gonna take for these idiot players to realize that they're not even playing the sport anymore??? It's basically a goon fest....

After Armstrong went suspension free, I figured that this time Shanny wouldn't let 2 head shots go free for one team.

It's tough to argue with this suspension when you consider the severity of some of the other suspension, but it still disgusts me that a little hit like that is now considered suspension worthy.

Justin Abdelkader should have got a 2 game suspension for that ridiculous dive.

So I'm a Leaf hater (openly) and this wasn't even a 2 minute penalty, never mind a suspension...

I don't think the hit was worth a penalty or a suspension.

this starts to be ridiculous.i start to question shanahan's intelligence.more guys will be missing from line-up due to suspensions than injuries.after reading the thread title i realized that im not suprised anymore.not even with macarthur's name involved.maybe becuz i dont care about the nhl as much as i did before.well done shanahan.
