Chris Stewart Suspended for Three Games

NEW YORK – St. Louis Blues forward Chris Stewart has been suspended, without pay, for three games for shoving Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall from behind and into the boards during NHL Game No. 252 Tuesday night in St. Louis, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Stewart will forfeit $46,621.62. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 11:14 of the first period.

Stewart will miss games Nov. 17 vs. Florida, Nov. 19 at Minnesota and Nov. 22 vs. Los Angeles. He will be eligible to return Nov. 23 at Pittsburgh.

He was staring at his numbers the whole time, what the hell was he thinking? This is the type of play we don't need in the game, so I'm good with this one.

Stupid hit. Shame only Brad Stuart was man enough to drop the gloves and go after Stewart, even if it was so ineffective cos of the dogpile he didn't even get a roughing.

Two games I can see but three? Give me a fukking break. Kronwall will probably be back next game. Thornton got two on a more vicious hit of Perron who's still out over a year later. Plus it was Stewie's first transgression. I don't get it......

I see that you're from Missouri...

Also, Good on Stuart to get in there and drop the gloves.

New sheriff in town and you would be hard pressed to find a more blatant example of an idiotic hitting from behind. Whats not to get? Stewart should have gotten 3 for the hit, 3 more for being stupid.

Stewart had a straight line to the puck and Kronwell turned to his right at the last second which Stewart couldnt have anticipated. This is one of those plays where Kronwell needs to be more aware of what is possible. He looked to his left but not his right but Stewart saw the numbers.

Langenbrunner leaping into the pile to grab Franzen was funny.

Bad hit, decent enough call.

Nice reaction from the Redwings there

Three games is one too many but acceptable coming from Shanny.

Please. Don't try to sell that to intelligent fans. I like Stewart and I don't like the Red Wings, but this was a stupid play by Stewart. The suspension is deserving....
