Carolina Recalls Michael Ryan

With forward Scott Walker not expected to play in Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the RBC Center, the Hurricanes recalled forward Michael Ryan from their AHL affiliate, the Albany River Rats on Wednesday.

Walker didn't feel well after Tuesday's loss to the New York Rangers in Manhattan.

Ryan, a Boston native, got his first NHL action in two games this season against the Ottawa Senators and Atlanta Thrashers, after the Hurricanes signed him as a free agent at the end of October. He played scant minutes, though.

He had been on a bit of a tear lately, getting 13 goals in the last 10 games. Ryan, 28, has a team-high 23 goals and 36 points in 36 games.

Ryan's been on a whale of a hot streak in the A. Hopefully he can log some good minutes until Walker can get back. Seems he would be well-suited for a third line role.

He seems like a good third line guy, but Eaves was moved up. I would think the smart move would be to give the guy on a hot streak more ice time, but Maurice doesn't do anything I want haha. Also seems they rather call up players than give Brookbank any chance at all. I feel bad for the guy. Even though he is getting paid, you know he wants to play the game as well.

You make very good points. I thought Eaves played decent tonight, which is about the most we can hope for out of him. With the way Ryan was playing in Albany, I would have like to seen him just bumped in to Walker's spot but I thought he was very unnoticeable out there tonight, regardless of his limited ice time.

I feel bad for Brookbank as well but, and I hate to say it, I think the team needs more of a guy like Ryan than Brookbank at this point. Wade just cannot be relied on to take a regular shift at this point and with Florida playing the way they are, we need points so we don't lose any ground. Hopefully Bouwmeester gives that team a giant middle finger and walks at the deadline.

If I'm Wade, though, I don't know how much I'm missing getting punched in the head night in and night out. I'd take my league minimum weekly paycheck and be damn happy for the opportunity!
