The moral of the story is Tortorella shouldn't say one word ever and in NY you get screwed!
I said that Hagelin would get 4 games and he got three. Here is a clean player with no prior history and he gets 3 games!
Did Phillips receive anything or even a hearing for his elbow to the head of Callahan?
No
Did Orpik receive anything or even a hearing for his knee on knee hit on Stepan?
No
Did Carkner receive anything?
No
Did Weber receive a suspension for his cheapshot the other day?
No

I predicted 4 games for Hagelin and he received 3. I'm not surprised!

So shouldn't you be happy he got less than you expected?

Despite his clean history, you can't argue that Hagelin's hit was not a really blatant elbow to the head. The whole argument about Alfredsson moving at the last minute that I read a couple places doesn't hold-up at all if you watch the trajectory of Hagelin's elbow. He seemed like a young kid getting carried away trying to finish his check in a very physical game. It ended up being purely elbow to head, no question of a little bit of shoulder in there or anything else that would have been deemed legal in previous seasons. This was just a badly thrown check by Hagelin. And the league has come down harder when it results in injury, which happened to a star player for the Senators in this case. I was figuring he'd get 2-3 games for this, which would have been probably a couple longer in the regular season.

As for the other hits you mentioned, I thought the Orpik hit should have been at least fineable.

Phillips' hit on Callahan looked like it included shoulder, not just elbow, and it didn't lead to injury. That's a much bigger gray area for supplementary discipline than Hagelin's blatantly illegal hit.

The Shea Weber play looked much worse than it actually was, there really wasn't that much force behind it, but I thought it would have been a 1 game suspension (although I agree with none).

And Jack, I really hope you don't think Carkner should be suspended for what happened with Boyle. You don't have to like it, but that 5 minute power play and game misconduct is definitely punishment enough.

Can't really argue this one. Just because you don't have a history doesn't mean you get one injure a player for free card.

IhateLindros 04-15-2012 08:58 PM

Didn't think he'd get 3.

First off I stand corrected. Evidently Carkner received a game so I am wrong for posting that he received nothing!
I'm not gonna lie, if I'm a Ranger fan and Scott was dressed and went after Neil or Phillips for his elbow to Callahan's face, I would be happy!
I also wrote that I don't blame the Senators but am annoyed with the Rangers and the bullsh*t NHL and how they handle discipline on and off the ice! How the hell did Neal not receive a penalty for his initial cheapshot on the Flyer kid today?
They have 4 officials on the ice and nobody saw a thing?
I'm also annoyed because a few weeks back a Devil jumped in to stop Bickel in his fight and wasn't kicked out as a 3rd man in and yet Dubinsky was kicked out last night!
The league is so fuc*ed up today and guys like Malkin get away with all kinds of cheapshots and a kid like Hagelin gets the book tossed at him!
I guess we'll see Kreider the next 3 games!

They're cracking down, trying to put the lid back on the can of worms.

If they'd given Mr. Turnbuckle Smash just 1 game, a lot of this BS wouldn't have happened.

OK, the NHL thought process is clear. Injure someone and expect to sit for a few games. Act like a goon and sit for one game. Remember, the NHL wants TV ratings and all these fights make for good TV highlights. Maybe the referees from Saturday nights game will have to sit for a few days because that call against Dubinsky was shameful.

Rangers Statement (Shot at Shanahan)

The New York Rangers accept the NHL's three-game suspension of Carl Hagelin and will not pursue an appeal.

However, we are thoroughly perplexed in the ruling's inconsistency with other supplementary discipline decisions that have been made throughout this season and during the playoffs.

We will have no further comment on this decision.

Rangers organization holds nothing back.

In one of the other articles I read, it sounded like Hagelin didn't mean to hit him that high. He apologized to Alfie, so I figured the suspension would have only been 1 or 2 games.

I doubt he is a dirty player, got carried away in the moment. At least he is willing to hit guys. Who knows, maybe Scott can play a game now.

The whole Carkner thing was ****ing awesome.....

No it wasn't he was the third man in.

So what is the difference between what Dubinsky did and what the 3rd man in Devils player Salvadore did when Bickel was beating Carter up with his blood all over the ice and Salvadore jumped in as 3rd man! I think the game was on March 19. Salavadore jumped in to save Carter and was given just a 10 minute penalty!
He wasn't ejected and was allowed to stay in the game to play! In that case, Dubinsky should of gotten the same penalty, 10 minutes and allowed to play!
Why the hell do you think Dubinsky was so pis*ed off throwing the gatorade container as he left the ice?
The league is so full of sh*t today!
Neal plasters a guy and jumps at him blindsighted as the Flyers player is minding his own business and there is no penalty called!
Phillips nails Callahan with a wicked elbow in the face and there is no call on the ice and nothing from the league office!
Weber blasts a guy with a head shot just like Hagelin and gets a $2,500 fine!
Salvadore is 3rd man in against the Rangers in a fight between Bickel and Carter and isn't ejected!
Any yet Dubinsky is ejected and Hagelin gets 3 games!
It's all bullsh*t!
